  • US-MEX WQ qualifier at 4 pm EDT

At Azteca Stadium. Should be a good one.

Nice to see Grahame Jones still writing soccer for the LA Times. He is a native Brit or Scot (don't remember which) and received a lot of attention during the WC in '94. The world media was ready to pounce on the US -- the fans and the media -- for not paying attention to the WC. We proved everybody wrong, of course. As one British fan said, "There is more football in the LA Times than in the London Times." Much credit to Mr. Jones.

Jones is a Welsh name, although there are many in England. Far fewer from Scotland. If he ever writes about rugby you can be sure he is Welsh.

Mexico looks threatening. That one goal won't be enough for a point.

1-1. You can see it here if you don't get Telemundo. Don't undersrand why this isn't on ESPN. The main ESPN.

Well, we need to get altidore on. We clearly won't get another goal without him. Predictable favoritism from the ref.

Sigh . . . we did OK, but we were clearly outplayed even without the ref's one-way calling. In Azteca, that's as good as we were gonna do. Play that game in Columbus and it probably is a tie. Mexico is on the way back up with some very talented young'ns.

8-) And I think we know why that is...

Charlie Davies looked good again. I am thinking more and more that he can't be left off the field, but you can't leave out Donovan or Altidore up front. I have never liked playing Landon in midfield for the USA but those 3 together could potentially do some serious damage.

Jozy needs to be on the field as much as possible, especially against an undersized opponent.

We don't get Telemundo here and my computer kept crapping out on me, so I couldn't get into the game. WTF is wrong with US Soccer anyhow? They want to promote the game in the US, but they sell the rights for this broadcast to a Spanish speaking network that most US homes don't get. Absolutely frickin' ridiculous.

                      Not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Well, I am not sure who you mean by they, but the situation was that the Mexican federation or whoever controls the tv rights down there like to use their position of power to stick it to the American networks by overcharging for the rights. I don't know any numbers but it was supposedly beyond ridiculous.
