Florida/Alabama vs. Texas seems very likely.
The big question will be how high will TCU and Cincinnati rise if two or all three of these teams lose before the end of the season. In other words will an undefeated TCU or Cincinnati be ranked higher than a one-loss Florida, Alabama or Texas?

The formula for Cincinnati is simple, assuming they get by Pitt and win out. A loss by Alabama(Auburn is a real threat), then Bama beating Florida. Or less likely A&M beating Texas.

Otherwise there's no way it's not SEC champ vs. Texas.

So you don't think it was used correctly when it was applied to folks like John Capel, Leonard Scott, Trindon Holliday and Xavier Carter?

Obviously there's no way Cincinnati will leap frog an undefeated Texas, Florida or Alabama. But are you saying that you're confident that Cincinnati will jump over any of those teams should they lose?

I take it that you've never heard it applied to any of the folks that I've mentioned. I'm surprised to hear that since you do seem to follow college football pretty seriously.

I attribute it more to a higher consciousness among sportscasters (wishful thinking?). They don't use it as loosely as they used to. Plus, it may be coincidence that I didn't see the telecasts with those players and/or didn't hear the phrase used. But you are absolutely right - they have WC speed too!

It was a Navy game, they had a receiver who ...."fastest man on the field"...so the announcers kept telling us. Damn if I can remember the guys name (that's says a lot right there). Then sometime in the third quarter..."he has blazing speed a 10.65 in the 100m".....hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I've been hearing that sort of thing ever since I started watching football. "Most"... the time the guy involved isn't a world class sprinter. Tim Dwight a great example.

This fix is in for Alabama and Florida to meet in the SEC Championship game. I'm guessing that the SEC will reprimand the referees or perhaps suspend them like they did when they stole a game for Florida, but everybody can see what's going on this year.
An opinion that's picking up steam.

                  • There is little doubt that Florida and Alabama can beat anyone in the country. Same can be said about Texas and a healthy USC squad. USC was without their starting-center, fullback,TE vs Oregon and their second best back in Johnson. They were also missing their third best receiver. I can't say that about any other teams.

While Boise State, TCU and Cinncy are winning their games, I do doubt they can hang with those four mentioned with something on the line.

I would put Cincinnati's offense up against any in the nation, and maybe a few NFL teams.

It's pretty tough when a Heisman-candidate and future high round NFL QB can't get off the bench following an injury.

Yes, the defense is young. But it's been pretty stout except during the 2nd half last week when they started thinking the game was over. Knowing Kelly, that won't happen again.

By the way, Connecticut is pretty good, but very unlucky. Their 5 losses have come by a grand total of 15 points.

                      • It'll be interesting to see what happens to Rodriguez at Michigan. Clearly the team has regressed since beating ND. They're now finding ways to lose instead of finding ways to win like they did earlier in the season. That's a reflection on the coach.

USC only deserves to be mentioned with Texas, Alabama and Florida in the land of make believe. Injuries are part of the game. Let's not forget, that against Alabama, LSU lost their quarterback, their best running back, their center and their best defensive player, and still they were only one bad call away from beating them. How might that game have turned out if they had stayed healthy and the referees didn't rob them of Peterson's interception. And let's not forget that the crew that officiated the Florida-LSU game got suspended by the SEC.

Whacko hyperbole alert! Any NFL D-line would decimate the Cincy O-line. Any NFL secondary would own the Cincy air game. Unless of course the entire Cincy roster will be drafted and signed to pro contracts.

                            • Everyone should hope UT, UF, and UA all implode the next few weeks.

A TCU-Cincinnati title game would cause the entire system to collapse. The powers-that-be would devise an acceptable playoff plan in about 37 minutes and it would be implemented next season.
