I'm pretty sure that Meyer was approached before they went for Weis. He flat turned them down.

    From wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Weis
On November 30, 2004, after finishing its football season with a 6–5 record, Notre Dame released head coach Tyrone Willingham. After first choice Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching position at the University of Florida, the university ultimately hired Weis, who was named Notre Dame's 28th head football coach on December 12, 2004.

      Correct. But times have changed.

Meyer has proven himself since then. There's nothing more to accomplish at Florida, and his best offensive and defensive weapons leave the program after this season. If he picks up another ring in January, the timing will be perfect, and Meyer is at heart a midwestern guy.

Time will tell, but I don't see any upside for Meyer going to Notre Dame. They probably can't pay him more than Florida can. They can't recruit as well as Florida can at this point. If he does resurrect that program, does he stay there forever or look for the next move? What would be the next move?

I just don't see it. I lived in Gainesville for five years, and it can't be worse than South Bend. I could be wrong.

Don't kid yourself. Notre Dame can swing with any of the big boy state colleges. They'll be paying Weis and his staff well over $20 million to go away.

They can't recruit as well as Florida can at this point.
That's exactly why you bring in a guy like Meyer as opposed to a young, talented, but low profile guy like Brian Kelly. Instant name cache on the recruiting trail.

There wouldn't be one. As I mentioned he's a born and bred midwesterner. Born in Ohio, played at Cincinnati, and cut his coaching teeth here at a local high school. If he came to Indiana it wouldn't be for the sunsets. It would be for the challenge(coaches are first and foremost ego-driven), and because it's home.

Good points, but I still don't see it. Again, I may be wrong. At some point ND may lose their lucrative TV contract and seek the safety of the Big 10. That would make a nice 12 team conference with a title game. Time will tell.

Wouldn't shock me if he goes. The challenge of putting ND back on top is the prime incentive. He would become a demi-god there. And yes, having been to both places, South Bend is Paradise compared to Gainesville.

              • I'm curious if Marlow ever participated in the Cal/Stanford student staredown. Lewis Johnson afraid to walk in the middle of it lol.

By the way, good game. Glad I found it on Versus since ABC stuck us with the Texas/Kansas snoozer.

                      Experts are beginning to agree.
