    Interesting, though it sounds tongue-in-cheek.

As I said earlier with Urban Meyer(before he basically took himself out of the running), ND has to look first for an ESTABLISHED name in order to get instant recruiting(and fundraising) gravitas. Brian Kelly, as talented as he is, wouldn't bring that, and I think ND has been burned once too often by going with "potential" in the coaching ranks.

    • I'm confused. Lou Holtz and Beano Cook said ND would be playing in the title game this year. I mean its not like they ever make ridiculous statements like Ron Pawlus will be a 4x Heisman winner or anything.

All the coaches who are worth having will be tied up until after the first week of January. If Notre Dame was smart and confident, they would wait until after the bowls to go after their man. I'm think that Les Miles might have very well left LSU for Michigan two years ago if the folks in Ann Harbor had been patient. It was ridiculous of them to expect a guy to walk away from an opportunity to raise the crystal football.

They (referring to USC) already have one (loss) (thanks to UW) and it's a rock-solid guarantee that UCLA will beat them this year.
That looks much more probable at this point... is it still rock-solid? I'd have to have pretty good odds or a very healthy spread to bet on UCLA myself. But I would have said the same things about Washington, Oregon and Stanford, too!

              • Bama survives. Let's see how the Gators handle the Noles tomorrow.

                • And the Gators win handily. National title semi-final next Saturday with Bama vs. Florida. Should be good. Which offense can score on the best defense in the country?

Florida certainly seems to have the upper hand, especially if Ingram is compromised by his hip issue.

Cincinnati has to hope for Nebraska to bring their A-game. If they do, Texas is in for a fight.

The Gators are getting stronger every week. Urban was too conservative the first half of the season (or was he just cleverly keeping the offense under wraps?), and that made the games closer than they needed to be, but now the Gators are hitting on all cylinders. Alabama has a potent offense and defense, but Fla's team speed is the difference. Bama has not faced a team with the diversity of weapons that the Gators bring nor the speed AND physicality of their defense. I expect it to be reasonably close to the 4th quarter, but then Tebow starts pounding a tired Bama line. (I hope) I'll go with

                      Godzillas 24
                      Red Koolaid 17

This is not a GUARANTEE or a mortal lock, just a hunch!  8-)

                        • How prophetic is Lou Holtz?
On ESPN's College Gameday Season Preview this morning, Lou Holtz picked Florida to UPSET Notre Dame in the national championship game.

                          • Not very. Lou Holtz is an unrepentant Notre Dame shill. Stanford wrote finis to that long dismissed pipe dream tonight.

                                mmmm... well, not so much...

So who exactly is the greater jerk of these 3 jerky coaches?
Harbaugh, the guy who goes for a two point conversion with the game already clearly in hand?
Neuheisel, who calls a time out to extend a game already lost?
Carroll, who responds by calling for a long TD pass when the game was already won?
