I think it's interesting that Wisconsin and Illinois are the only two Big Ten schools that decided to take advantage of the abolition of the rule that you can't schedule games after Thanksgiving. All of the other Big Ten schools are still looking at a five to six week layoff between the end of the regular season and their bowl, and if one of them had found its way into the championship game, it would have been looking at a six and a half week layoff.

I predict the Heismann won't go to someone who's deserving and truly outstanding (Suh, Gerhart, Spiller) because of their teams, but will go to one of the "big three" McCoy, Ingram, Tebow on the best teams.
The Heismann long since stopped going to simply the most outstanding player and now goes to the best player on the best team. You there, on the motorbike! Sell me one of your melons!

<<"The Heisman has evolved to where 50 percent is about preseason hype, 25 percent is about giving it to somebody who's on an undefeated team, and about 25 percent is about actually what the player is accomplishing.">>

Guru, I noticed that Cincinnati has a higher computer ranking than both Texas and TCU, but those pesky humans are holding them down. In the event that Nebraska shocks the world, they'll need to rack up some style points against Pittsburgh in order to beat out TCU for the championship bid.

Another FLA player arrested last night. This time the BCS bowl defensive MVP. At the start of the season a total of 24 FLA players had faced criminal charges in court since Coach Meyer took over the reigns.
This record is not necessarily any better or worse than other major programs, but I have a hard time squaring this with the coach's Mr. Clean image - all that choking up, teary-eyed emotion about Tim Tebow and Tebow's wonderful effect on raising the character of everyone around him.
So will the alleged drunk driver play this weekend in the big game? Earlier this year the linebacker caught on video gauging at an opposing player's eyes was penalized by sitting out a half (although the story goes that the player himself opted to sit the whole game). I admit to being unreasonably cynical about such stuff.
So what's the deal with Coach Meyer and his high ethical standards? Marlow, you are the resident Florida guy, whattya think?

Florida will have to face Alabama without their starting defensive, end Carlos Dunlap, who was recently arrested for D.U.I.
