      • we'll take any mention we can get. From SF Chron football column yesterday:

        <<You gotta see these guys

Florida running back Jeffery Demps and LSU running back Trindon Holliday:

No cliches here, but a track meet really could break out at Saturday's game. Demps set a national high school record in the 100 meters with a time of 10.01 at the 2008 Olympic track and field trials. The sophomore has 28 carries for 304 yards (a 10.9 average) and four touchdowns.

Holliday is the two-time SEC champ in the 100 and once ran a 4.27 40 in basketball high-tops. The 5-foot-5 senior's 40-yard kickoff return last week, coming right after a bogus celebration penalty on Georgia, set up the Tigers' game-winning score against the Bulldogs....>>

          • For the last three years, the Florida-LSU game has served as a de facto national championship semifinal game. And now the stage has been set, Baton Rouge is building up to a fever pitch, and alligator meat at the most popular seafood market in town is selling like $0.25 beer. Any predictions?

Bet the house that Tebow will be out there. Game time decision my ass.

As for LSU, against a largely creampuff schedule their offense ranks #99, defense #40 in the NCAA. #4 ranked team yes, but they barely squeaked by Washington, Mississippi State, and Georgia. This emperor wannabe truly has no clothes.

Florida 34 - 13 (and UC moves another notch closer to #2).

The doctors cleared Tebow this afternoon, and when ESPN interviewed Urban Meyer this morning, he said that if Tebow was cleared, he would play.

                • Besides being the ugliest college football game I've seen all year, the most glaring difference between LSU and Florida last night, was their offensive lines. LSU's defense has proven throughout the year that they are national championship caliber, but their offensive line, which Les Miles claims is the best he's ever coached, is definitely not. Two years ago, he went for it on fourth down five times against Florida, and went 5 for 5. However, last night when they had the ball on Florida's one-yard line, he didn't have enough confidence in this vaunted offensive line to go for it, and settled for a field goal. Jordan Jefferson has been running for his life all season, and will probably set the school record for sacks before the season is over. Ironically, despite all this, LSU still controls its own destiny as far as the national championship is concerned. All they have to do is beat Ole Miss, Alabama and Florida in a December rematch in order to punch their ticket to Pasadena.

                  • If I EVER see that dive play again, it will be too soon. What is this, Ohio St - Michigan of the 60s: 3 yards and a cloud of dust? Luckily LSU does not have the D-line to stop it. I'm disturbed that both in the Tennessee game and this one, Urban has played it so close to the vest that he can't even see his own cards (lots of O-weapons)! How ironic that in a game of penalties, Florida's one TD was on a clear case of offensive pass interference - NOT called!

Meanwhile in Tally, the calls for Bobby's head are getting ugly.

I don't think LSU's defense can be faulted for last night's loss. When you hold the #1 ranked, defending national champions and their Heisman trophy winning quarterback to 13 points, the lowest since Urban Meyers has been at Florida, you've done your job. And let's not forget, it would have only been 6 points if the referees had been doing their job when Florida scored its only touchdown.

But my point was, Meyer was NOT even trying to score a lot of points. He had the offense stripped down to just a few 'safe' plays. On the 17th consecutive dive play, a good D-line would have stuffed it; instead the UF O-line kept blowing open holes, so the DBs had to make the plays.

But if you look at a lot of those plays, it had more to do with the defensive line respecting Tebow (thinking he'd keep it) than Florida's offensive line. I don't they would have had as much success on those plays if Tebow didn't have such a great reputation as a runner. And if that play would have been as unstoppable as you say it is, Florida would not have had as so many stalled drives and they would have put LSU away in the first half. The fact that Florida was scoreless for the first 221/2 minutes of the second half was the result of LSU's defense stiffening up when it mattered, not a decision by Meyer to sit on a seven-point lead for the whole second half. And let's not forget that Florida's first field goal was entirely the result of silly penalties by LSU's defense, not Florida's offensive prowess.

And LSU's one FG was the result of consecutive 'silly' 15-yard PF penalties.

There's no doubt about that. LSU's offensive line has struggle against mediocre defenses, so it's no surprise that they would get dominated by a great one.

I'm losing speed on 'greatest team ever', if UF can't do better than this (no disrespect to LSU).
