While the ignorant give those lightweights, "The Beatles" credit for introducing the sitar to the world of rock/popular music, we all know that the credit actually goes to Brian Jones, who played a wicked "white-boy" sitar in the Rolling Stones classic "Paint It Black" a couple of years before the Bugs stumbled upon the instrument. Not only that, he did it on a tune deeply immersed in the Jewish musical genre. "Paint It Black" - Klezmer music at its best!!
Honus, I sure hope that was a feeble attempt at humor, instead of an ill-advised slam at George Harrison. It doesn't honor anything, much less Brian Jones, to couch your homage to him in such negative sentiments.

Hmm, not sure why you read it that way marlow. It didn't come across as anything more than poking a bit of fun at the beatles from my end. Let's see how offended squackee is, he seems to be the big beatles fan around here.
Sorry Bud. I lived through all that stuff, as I believe you did. I can't imagine a more over-rated musical group than "The Beatles". Maybe it's an exaggeration to call it all crap, but with the exception of a few of the John Lennon offerings, it's at least no better'n garbage. I could rattle-off a ton of better music than that stuff. You can keep it!
None of that stuff has made its way to my iPod while a small collection of the Rolling Stones offerings have. But then again, it has to compete against Beethoven, The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Leon Redbone, and any number of really talented artists ...
But lighten-up, my friend. We are both pole vaulters to our core. We are the "Chosen Few". You know the deal ...
I can't imagine a more over-rated musical group than "The Beatles".

I am sincerely sorry you feel that way.
The Beatles are literally the music of my life. They came onto the scene the year I became a teenager and they broke up the year I turned 20. John Lennon was murdered on my 30th birthday. Their music has brought more joy to my life than any other musical entity, including the Mozarts and Beethovens of the world, whom I truly admire, but do not touch me as the Beatles did (still do).
I am indeed a live and let live, laissez faire kinda guy, but I cannot comprehend how none of their music appeals to you.
Oh well. I'll just . . . let it be . . .
[for all those you you who want to look down your noses at me for my philistine tastes, be my guest - I've heard it all my life. Be warned, however, Squackee has SPer hit teams deployed, as we speak! ]
I am into classical music (including opera) and nothing but. I haven't been to a rock concert since the '60's and you'd have to kidnap me to get me to another one. But I've always admired the Beatles and enjoyed their music. Some of their music was absolutely the work of genius and some of their arrangements were amazing. Their best pieces were intricate and profound, beautiful and intellectual. I can't think of another pop or rock group that can match them.

You are totally entitled to your opinion and we are taking about art so there is no wrong or right answer. You are not wrong but.....why the anger? Do you know why you so angry.?
You said a few Lennon songs were ok but the rest is garbage. That means you are calling these songs garbage....
Clearly, the rather silly and ignorant person who rabbited on, giving us the benefit of his ''wisdom'' about the Beatles, has little or no knowledge of any music , if he maintains his musical simplicities about ''better'' music, whatever that is.
The Beatles, who have commanded world wide fame and still do, are remembered with a pleasure and appreciation I consider will be recalled with fondness, when the over rated Rolling Stones are a distant memory to most fans of popular music.
The list of Beatles music presented by Squackee needs very little addition but for inventiveness , melodiousness and creative ideas as to how one can introduce new sounds etc the Beatles are and will remain unique.
Let us all recall how the Beatles developed and grew whilst the money obsessed Rolling Stones still, as ''alte cackers''' present their endlessly regurgitated rock music to a foolish audience, following the image makers of pop music.
Any person who calls the music of the Beatles ''crap'' or ''garbage'' is in need of a doctor since his hearing is malfunctioning.
Thanx 72, i would not condem anyone's musical taste if they said that the Bealtes have an impressive song catalog and they are obviously good song writers but they just arent my cup of tea. To dismiss hundreds of songs loved for generations as garbage is over the top.
I like the Stones. They have written many great and important songs. They have a unique style but they are not among my personal favorites.
I recently spent months transfering every Beatle album- (yes 33 and a third!) one song at a time on to C/D's and in the process became an even bigger fan.

Um . . . you do know that a new digitally remastered catalog of their works is just about to be released!

Found out right in the middle of the project but im hoping the sound of the albums will have their own charm. It did take me back a little. I 'll let you know the differance.
I must say some of the songs sound unbelievably great, some of the older ones sound a litte brittle.
