  • Texas Lady Longhorns Roster?

Looks like UT Lady Longhorns updated their roster, but it looks really weak in the short sprints (100/200). I'm not sure if they can field a competitive 4x100. Is this roster a complete list or are they expected to add a few more names?? Just kind of unusual to not see that many short sprinters (other than Chalonda G.)

Hopefully one of these days there will be a college board....

Pretty sure one of last year's freshman transferred to A&M as well...can't remember her name but I think she ran her high school track in Mansfield.

After marvelling momentarily that there were 44 names on the roster ( isn't that a lot these days?) it was interesting that 36 were from Texas and only 8 from out of state, ( CA (2) GA, AZ, LA,CT, WI, BVI) with 3 sprinters, 3 distance and 2 jumpers from out of state

Texas is a BIG state by size and population and as a state school, funds go a lot further for in-state students.

What's even more interesting is how many athletes from Texas are on rosters of teams outside the state. Yes, in track.

As for other sports well, when OU won their national championship a few years ago I believe 50 of their players were from Texas.

Having lived in Texas and holding dual Texas-Oklahoma citizenship, I am well aware of the breadth and depth of Texas athletic talent.
I think it is true every year the the OU football roster is numeridally dominated by Texas athletes.
Oklahoma State, once a perennial basketball power with nearly all Oklahoma players, now enjoys an occasional season in the sun with mostly out-of state players. I recall that circa 1950-51 OSU went deep into the NCAA post season tournament with three starters from the same El Reno, Oklahoma HS that won the state ch in 1949 (?)

With an athletic budget of over $100M, I don't think funds are an issue. Hell, the women's team planning on competing in the Bahamas for their Spring Break meet this upcoming season. They're not exactly hurting for cash.

Yep, it helps to have have Yates Field oil revenue since 1926 (?) dedicated to the University of Texas.

Just also wanted to mention that Alex Pegram has also transferred out of UT.

LaKeidra and Alex P. were suppose to be the next group of sprinters... but Chalonda so far is listed as the only short sprint threat.

They still can't give out any more scholarships than poorer schools.

I know it sounds like a pattern, but I'd like to say a few words in defense of Bev if I may.

Sanya, Bianca, Marshevet, Alex, Nichole, Michelle and Melaine.

                        There.

You can soon add Chalonda to that list soon!

I heard Texas should recruit well next yr, but i wonder if Bev has anything up her sleeves for this coming season (maybe a few transfers or spring start?). She doesn't seem to have a sprinting squad that can be competitive for the 4x100 as of now...

No, but it does enable Texas to provide some mighty fine facilities, perks and extensive travel, all of which helps recruiting.
