  • Atlanta's finest restaurant closing

    http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/ ... =printable

Very sad. I guess this is a sign of our times. I took my future wife here on one of our first dates. But the memories, they can't take away.

Günther Seeger's place already closed (in an earlier thread this year); note that he is prominently mentioned in this link.

Dang! Atlanta had turned into one of the best high-end restaurant destinations on the planet, but we're getting short shelf-life (see not only Seeger's and the R-C, but also Brasserie le Coze)

I've dined there several times over a period of more than a decade, and I've always found the place to be a bit overrated. I haven't been there in several years and I won't miss it. On the other hand, I did think that Seeger's eponymous restaurant was a serious loss.

Interesting to read the mixed reviews under Meredith Ford's blog (AJC dining critic). The one time I went, it was perfect. Joel Antunes was the chef at the time. I have the feeling the place wasn't as good once these fusion chefs took over from straigtforward, classic chefs such as Seeger and Antunes.

I had thought that Brasserie le Coze was going to re-open, but I haven't heard of it doing that.

Edit: I'm not the poster "TN Volunteer" who posted in the thread. Man, there is some racial tension in that city.

Restaurant's website mentions closing on 10/1.

I'd love for that to happen, but I haven't heard or seen anything to suggest that it will.

Did some digging and found out that they have re-opened downtown, different name:

That's wonderful news. Thank you. My next trip to Atlanta will definitely include a visit.

They've still got the skate wing! I'm there!

And they still have the creamy onion soup. Mrs. tandfman is delighted!

Was just noticing their beer list. No French beers. Are there any French beers? If so, are any good? Prolly a dumb question.

My brother had his bachelor party dinner at the Ritz when Joel was there. One of the best meals I've ever had but we got a little special treatment since my brother is a chef and had worked w/ Joel. Olive oil ice cream w/ sprig of basil.

There are still lots of great spots in Atlanta. But the economy started hitting the business hard in January and a lot of places have shuddered over the months since. September is a traditionally slow month for restaurants in town but last night we went to our favorite taquería, which used to have crazy lines every night (back the dump truck in to pick up the cash kind of business) and it was a ghost town.

I've had Fischer and its really good. I would imagine Gh has tried many other brands in France.

The Fischer brewery was founded in 1821 in Strasbourg, in the Alsace region in France, and moved to Schiltigheim in 1854, apparently because of the good quality of water there[citation needed]. In 1922, they took over the neighbouring Adelshoffen brewery and became Groupe Pêcheur (the French translation of the German Fischer). Groupe Pêcheur was in turn taken over by Heineken in 1996.
                          phsstt!

I don't know about gh, but when I'm in France, I generally drink wine, not beer. And if I'm drinking beer there, it's likely to be Belgian.

Taqueria del Sol? Surely its popularity isn't waning!
