I talked to a saleswoman at Best Buy the other day who said she'd been testing the new system for several weeks already. Either it is the greatest product ever or else her mind has been bought, programmed and completely controlled by Bill Gates.
I skipped Vista altogther and now I'm making the transition from from XP Pro to 7. I've been running the release candidate version and I really like it, and I would add that it has a very shallow learning curve IMO. Also, the Pro and Ultimate versions of Windows 7 have virtual XP Pro built into them to be used when one of your older programs won't run with Windows 7. What does it say about Vista that Microsoft isn't including virtual Vista in Windows 7? But the biggest indictment of Vista is that a lot of high-end machines still come with XP Pro installed or at least the option of downgrading to Vista for no extra charge.

I did switch to Vista, which I hated, and switched back within 2 months. Will probably upgrade to 7 but will likely stick with Office 2003. I hated the ribbon on Office 2007, because it didn't allow me to modify the menus the way I have always done. They dumbed it down for those of who know how to do it and want to customize it.
Looks like an improvement to me. Maybe their best yet
I had to upgrade my office suit recently as people kept sending me docx files. I wish I had just bought a convertor as the new version is a lot slower. I just want the bare bones, all the extra gimmicks are worthless.

If you had Microsoft Office, you just needed to download the compatibility pack for free. This lets you open docx files and do some minor editing. Of course you don't have the full capabilities. Open Office should open docx without any problem and its pretty cheap.....
