  • How much do media stringers get paid?

When a paper doesn't want to send a writer to a far away meet and hires a local writer there to do a story, how much does that stringer get paid? Is it per article? Roughly how much?

As someone who has often strung, there has been a simple 1-word answer: Zipsquat.
A by-line to put on your resume.

A real newspaper will pay at least a minimal amount for a story, depending on the extent of the coverage. If they just want to get you off their back, sure, they will pay nothing

Guessing a sportswriter from another paper would get paid more than a student. Any dollar figures?

I have made anywhere from $50-$200 for a story, ranging from short to quite extensive
