  • the greatest TV characters of all-time

this has super potential. You don't need to come up with a 20 like this guy did (although feel free). Disclaimer: I happened across it while digging up some dirt on one my all-time faves, which is his No. 2, but i suspect most of you have never heard of.

As I noted on my Facebook page (nah, don't try to friend me), you can find meaningful music in the most strange of places. Like Kim Richey's A Place Called Home in the tear-jerking Angel episode in which Fred (aka Winifred Burkle) dies.

A dirty dozen of my faves (sitcoms only):
    12. Lucy Ricardo - the gold standard for female leads
    11. Basil Fawlty - over the top funny
    10. Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli - personified "cool" on tv for a generation
    9. Eric Cartman - no drop in funniness in over a decade
    8. Fred Sanford - classic grumpiness
    7. Herman Munster - most lovable buffoon of all time
    6. Ralph Kramden - still edgy by today's standard
    5. Frasier Crane - only spinoff to surpass the original show in consistent funny
    4. Beavis - heh-heh-heh... FIRE!!
    3. Al Bundy - the funniest dad in tv history
    2. Archie Bunker - there is no way this show could be on tv today - and that is a sad commentary
    1. George Costanza - generated more out loud laughs for me than any other character

All had a major influence on popular culture in their time and that remains to this day.

(Edited to fix screw-up on #12)

        Hawkeye

        Wembley Fraggle

        Dexter (do cable shows count?)

Oh yikes - As someone who grew up with TV being central to my existence, I can think of HUNDREDS of characters who have entertained me greatly, including the entire ensembles of M*A*S*H and Cheers (Norm!). It goes all the way back to Crusader Rabbit, one of my first memories at age 3. I'll have to give this some serious thought. 8-)

My criteria would be how potent the character is, one that is completely developed in every way.

              Colombo
              Barney Fifih sp?
              Spock
              Archie Bunker
              James West
              Haus Cartwright
              Ed Sullivan
              Bugs Bunny
              phsstt!

My guess is that, as a character, you refer to Lucy Ricardo.

Lucy Arnaz is Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz' daughter who also had/has an acting career.
