  • Miss. State's Cristil ending long career today

He's having to abruptly end his 58-year career as Voice of Mississippi State Bulldogs due to health reasons. One of the best and a complete gentleman. End of an era. All the great ones are gone. Nothing but vanilla now. Jack's last game is today in Knoxville, and we have plans to honor him before the game.

In the SEC, we've gone from...

Cawood Ledford to Tom Leach at Kentucky
John Forney to Eli Gold at Bama
Larry Munson to Scott Howard at Georgia
John Ward to Bob Kesling at Tennessee
Otis Boggs to Mick Hubert at Florida
Stan Torgerson to David Kellum at Ole Miss
At former SEC school Georgia Tech...Al Ciraldo ("Toe Meets Leather") to Wes Durham
And now we lose Jack Cristil, who is from Memphis, Tennessee BTW

The old guys were so much better. Not just more colorful, but better, too.

Above is link to Jack Cristil making announcement of his retirement. Such a gentleman and a nice guy. His last game was in Knoxville and before they beat us, we honored him during a ceremony that featured our former radio broadcaster, John Ward, and athletic department veteran Gus Manning, who was hired at UT by General Robert Neyland.
