    The jury is far out on the use of PRP for injuries to the shoulder, mostly the rotator cuff, and that is similar to many other body parts. There have been some studies on this with variable results, but most of the published literature fails to show much benefit from controlled studies, rather than isolated case reports. One of the best ones did show that PRP does not help much at all unless there are also stem cells present at the injury site. There are many difficulties with the procedure in terms of how to get the material to the injury site, and keep it there, without it being absorbed by the body.

    Articles like this in Sports Illustrated are extremely dangerous, to my mind, as they make an implication that something works medically on a completely anecdotal case, when, in fact, the data on this is very preliminary and we really don't know how well this will work yet.
