in other words, most of these south of the 49th parallel that most people htink of as the US/Canada border

When I was in grad school in Ontario in the early 70s I learned that 95% of the populace lived within 50 miles of the US border. Somewhat facetiously, if we were to calculate the "mean" center of population at the height of summer and the height of winter, we might now find that the latter is south of the border due to all the snpwbirds!

I’m not sure if someone else already cited this map of North America, created by journalist and author Colin Woodard. Woodard posits that culturally and politically, North America has 11 different nations within it that have been forming since colonial times. The original work dates back to 2011, but it pops up in the news now and then.
