Anyone who publishes a book called “Five Millennium Canon of Solar Eclipses -1999 to 3000” must be cut from the same cloth as those of us who marvel at a 1,000-deep all-time performance list or a list of every 4-minute miler in history.
It is based on his calculations that those interactive maps can show the precise time, magnitude and duration of the 2017 eclipse for every coordinate. He has produced maps and diagrams of every solar and lunar eclipse during the aforementioned 5,000 year span. Fun with maps indeed!

Because I like astronomy one of my twitter follows is @earthsky - here is a story from today on there that talks about Fred Espenak and the dispute over this week's Harvest Moon and if it is a Supermoon or not. http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essent...ampaign=buffer

This may be too lowbrow. On the other hand, they missed Coxsackie, NY.

It appears life expectancies were based on local death records. So if, for example, one is born in New York, but retires to Florida and dies there at 90, thus showing up in the Florida death records but not New York's, doesn't that skew the data to make it appear Florida's life expectancy is greater?
Also, there is this strange statement in the methodology:
"The death and population counts for age groups with zero deaths were replaced with the corresponding county death and population counts."
In other words, if no one died in a particular age group in the years in question, we are going to pretend some did.
I am reminded of two notable flawed studies, one concluding that lefthanders had significantly shorter life expectancies, and one that firstborn children did better academically than second, second better than third, etc. It took awhile, but eventually both were debunked when their methods were corrected.Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants
