  • How about a clueless headline writer:

The United States 4x100 metre men's relay team have been stripped of their silver medals from the London 2012 Olympics in the wake of Tyson Gay's doping case.

    The headline reads:

    >>Gatlin costs US Olympic relay medal<<

The story makes it clear that it was Tyson Gay who cost the team the relay medals.

    • The headline writer should have read the article.

I think this guy has watched the old SNL skit "Little Chocolate Donuts" cereal with John Belushi one too many times.

          • Here's one that just makes you scratch your head, wondering how anyone could be so clueless:

Follow your team with our extensive sports coverage, player interviews, live updates and videos

            The sub-headline says:

            >>After her win at the Doha and Shanghai Diamond Leagues, Blessing Okagbare wants to be the number in the world<<

The first sentence of the story also refers to her wins at the Doha and Shanghai Diamond Leagues.

In fact, she did not run in Doha at all.

            • And in today's cluelessness, from the front page story on the Arizona team going to the NCAAs

The highlight of the meet for the Wildcats was when our 4×4 team broke a previous record of 3:05.81, which was set on June 5, 1981. The 4×400 team included Pete Lauderdale II, Blake Eichler, Bryce Houston and Miles Parish who broke the school record with a time of 3:04.51, that’s one minute and thirty seconds better!

              • ........... That's one second and thirty hundreds...
                Still a big difference, though!

                • How about clueless headline writing? Here's a story about Kevin Young participating in a track camp in Kentucky. It's a long story--33 paragraphs, and it's all about Kevin Young. And the headline reads: "World record holder Jones says Centre College track camp one of the best".

Very interesting. They've now changed the headline to refer to Young, not Jones. But the URL, which refers to Jones and not Young, is still the same.

                    • The Los Angeles Times story from the California State meet prelims reports that Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta had a productive day, "posting the fastest qualifying times in the 200- and 400-meter races and leading a victorious relay at Buchanan High in Clovis."

"Norman offered a glimpse of what was to come in the first event, building a big lead for Murrieta on the first leg of the 100-meter relay. The Broncos won their heat in 41.07, the second-fastest qualifying time. Norman sat out the 400-meter relay, but the Broncos still finished second in their heat and earned the ninth and last qualifying spot.

Any notion of Michael Norman wilting under the pressure of the big stage disappeared minutes into Friday night's CIF state track and field preliminaries.

                      • Another gem from Larry Rawson.

In an article on our front page about the Demi Payne/Sandi Morris dominance of the Collegiate Women's PV, Rawson says the following:

To give you an idea of how far ahead of the field these two are, the next closest woman in the field has jumped a 14-4.....this season.

I guess he hasn't studied the yearly list!
                        There's Carolina Carmichael at 14-9.
Megan Clark also is at 14-9.
And Alysha Newman has a 14-5.50 this year.

Then there's Desiree Freier with a PR of 14-7.25...though that's NOT from 2015.

                        Rawson, do your homework!

                        • We expect silly reporting from mainstream media.
But a milestat link on the main page here leads to the following question:
Who Wins A Noah Lyles/Andrew Hunter 800 Match?
Since an 800 meter race between these two is quite obviously never going to happen, ya gotta wonder why ask such a ludicrous question...

This shows a profound misunderstanding of the body's energy systems. Juantorena aside, Milers will beat 400 guys at 800 meters 9 out of 10 times. Besides, Hunter already has a 1:52 PR!!

Of course. It's as silly as pondering which of the two (Lyles or Hunter) would win at 200 meters.

Gee, I was there, and I thought Tori Bowie "scorched to victory".
