Someone at the University of Iowa thinks that if you win an event at the Pan-Am Junior Championship, that makes you a "World Champion".

I saw Shinnick run 45.20 at Sacramento, but it failed to click that he broke the World Record. What's more, I don't even recall that he cleared any hurdles!

This article from the Daily Bruin (which was posted on Today's Top Headlines) states that Jim Bush won 13 NCAA championships in 20 years while at UCLA. You'd think even the most raw sportswriter for a college newspaper would at least delve into the history of the sport if you are assigned to write about it.

Well, the Bruin men did beat the Trojans 13 times during his tenure. Doesn't that mean just as much as a national championship to the folks from Westwood?

From the article in Today's Top Headlines regarding the cancellation of the 2017 Rieti meeting:

Kenyan David Rudisha set a then-world record of 1min 41.01sec in the 800 metres in 2010, while Jamaica's Asafa Powell timed 9.74sec in the 100m in 2007, a mark that remained in place until beaten by compatriot Usain Bolt at the Berlin world championships two years later.

Evidently, Bolt's world-record runs in New York and Beijing were merely some sort of mass hallucination.

This one really had me scratching my head, wondering what the writer could have been thinking. Actually, it's the headline writer--there's nothing wrong with the story, which appeared on the website of the University of Iowa's school newspaper. The first paragraph is:

>>After a weekend off, the Iowa cross-country team will head to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Woody Greeno Invitational.<<

But the headline says "HAWKEYE CROSS COUNTRY HEADS OUT EAST"

One can only hope that the driver of the team bus didn't read the headline before getting out on the road. Nebraska is definitely West of Iowa.

From today's IAAF report about a Half-Marathon in the Czech Republic (on front page)---

They say the winner---Violah Jepchumba----set the Bahrain National Record with her 66:06.

Then, later in the article, they mention she'd run 65:22 earlier this year----but NO mention of it being 44 seconds FASTER than her "National Record" of 66:06!!

They've now updated the headline and replaced EAST with WEST. I guess someone else out there noticed it.
