  • NO Blanket Ban for Russia!

Word is leaking out that INNOCENT Russians will NOT be banned from the Rio Olympic Games!!
This is the greatest news I've heard all year!!

Yelena Isinbayeva will be competing in the Rio Olympics!!!

    Sanity and Justice prevail!!

I am glad to hear this too but why should Isi compete? IOC says no blanket ban and that is up to the singular federation to decide. IAAF already decided they don't want the russian athletes to compete outside of their home country.

I don't know what makes you think Isi will be competing.

      Front page article says:
"Bach is set to announce strict eligibility rules for Russian athletes seeking to participate at the Games next month. The IOC is expected to leave the final decision in the hands of the international federations."

I believe that this is most unfair to all other competitors since it is most likely all Russians have cheated and will probably still benefit to some extent therefrom. The OG have lost any remaining credibility in my opinion and should be discontinued for that and many other reasons.

          What are you talking about??
The IOC has issued their statement!
          I just saw it!
If CLEAN Russians can verify their "cleanliness" vis a vis drugs, then they're IN the Games!
The ONLY thing that would keep Isi out would be if SHE decides against competing!!
          The door is OPEN!!

Well, I am reading the IOC report and it could be the way you say but I think the IAAF has the last word on it.

The Olympic "movement" just took a big step backwards.

The decision is political and financial.

They think they are saving the Games.

They have just blown a big hole in the Games.

              They just don't get it.

The IOC is leaving it up to individual sports to decide. Track has already decided NO Russia.

Among other key points from the report:

                - Russians who have ever failed a test in the past will NOT be eligible to compete. This immediately knocks out some big athletes in other sports like swimming and weightlifting.

                - IOC rejects Stepanova as a neutral athlete because of the above.

I believe you are overacting sir. The IOC is allowing each sport to decide on Russia.
Track and Field's governing body has already told Russia hell no.

Huge questions already being raised about banning Russian athletes with past ADRVs but allowing them from other countries. Obviously an issue that affects Team USA T&F quite a bit.

Yes, but in recognition of the value of her whistleblowing, she and her husband are being invited to attend the Rio Games.

Awww how sweet. I'm sure they will feel totally safe and comfortable taking them up on that offer.

This is bullshit to the nth degree!!
Screw the IAAF---probably the worst organization EVER in the history of sport---and the dirtiest---given all its recent scandals!!

The IOC should rule on the OG's!!
And PVP is right---this opens up a whole can of worms as regards "once dirty" athletes---from whatever country!!

This should be one EFFed up OG!!

CAS may well overturn the decision to ban former Russian dopers, I guess it just comes down to whether or not Mutko (who is definitely not resigning now) wants to fight that. I bet he will.
