The other day my track-loving cousin was in town so we walked around the new Hayward Field. He asked about the big tower and I said it was a mostly useless appendage I've taken to calling Uncle Phil's Dick Extender.
My cousin told me that when our fathers were both at UC Berkeley in the 40s they called the Hoover Tower at rival Stanford (named after ex-Pres and engineer Herbert Hoover) "Hoover's Last Erection". Didn't hear what Stanford calls Cal's Campanile . . .
Hoover's Last Erection
Cal's ???

I see the 30,000 figure is back....if the stadium seats 12,500 where are they going to put 17,500 temporary seats....there isn't much space left on the North end. Why not ask them that.....Last edited by Conor Dary; 09-12-2019, 03:51 PM.

A video from a drone and an answer to our question.....they could be some pretty high seats in the North end....
The stadium is largely open on the north end, where there will be a pedestrian mall and plaza. That is where temporary seats will be added for bigger events, such as the 2020 U.S. Olympic trials and the 2021 World Outdoor Championships.
Van Horne said it would be possible to expand seating capacity to as many as 30,000 seats for the World Championships.
Asked how 17,000 seats could fit into the stadium’s north end, Van Horne said: “It does go high. It goes higher than the dorms through here.”
