The NYT put up a page with an audio slider that cuts high frequencies and boosts low frequencies on one end, and does the opposite at the other end, while playing the Laurel/Yanni clip in a loop.
    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...el-debate.html

I started it at the Laurel side and gradually moved it towards the Yanni side until I heard Yanni. Then I stopped, moved it two notches back towards Laurel, and I still heard Yanni! I had to move it back one more notch to get the Laurel sound to return.

Thanks. That was interesting. Last year it was the white/blue dress and apparently I missed this one.

I see pink, but if I look 'through' it, I see gray.

Same here. I am not sure how anything else is possible.

Men have worse high frequency hearing than women, and as age increases high frequency hearing degrades more than low frequency hearing.

Most people on this message board are old or middle-aged men, so Laurel is the expected dominant result here.

Laurel. The wife: Yanni. Yanni? She knows I can't stand Yanni.

                    Definitely Laurel for me

.I looked at a Youtube piece with a guy tweaking the clip in various ways and only heard Yanny at all when he removed all the low frequency sound.

I had to be pretty far right to hear Laurel.

In women, the hearing is the first thing to go, in men, it's the second .
