From watching that video it seems at his highest point the top of his head appears to be about 2 inches below the rim.

Therefore, at 6'3" his leap was 43 inches off the ground.

Your math is correct, but 6'3" is his height without shoes. Add 1 to 2 inches to account for the shoes, making his total height somewhere between 6'4" and 6"5, so his leap would be 41-42 inches.

Starting in the 2019 season, the NBA standardized the height reporting, requiring every player to be measured without shoes. Before that, the height reporting was very inconsistent -- some players listed their height with shoes, some without shoes, and some still listed the same old height from when they were teenagers entering the NBA draft. As a result, dozens of players lost an inch or two, and a few "grew" an inch or two with the updated measurements.

But sometimes sheer size is just as entertaining in sports.
When the Refrigerator scored his Super Bowl touchdown, it was much less about skill than pure mass (6'2, 335).
Nate Newton was Nate Newton, first and foremost, because he was 350+ pounds.
On the other hand, dudes like Lawrence Taylor were terrors because they had size AND athleticism. When I watched Giants games in the mid-to-late 80s, I just focused on LT every time the other team snapped the ball.
