Yesterday the NBA's Facebook page posted this throwback from the 2005 All-Star Slam Dunk contest: https://www.facebook.com/watch?v=642839813620672 . It's a public page, so you don't need a Facebook account to view it.

It shows Steve Nash using his soccer skill to deliver an assist to Amar'e Stoudemire on his dunk.

You'll be hard pressed to find a more spectacular blocked shot than this. 😲

No argument here at all. That's amazing. I am reminded of an aging Wilt showing off his absurd athleticism:

I don't know how many of you watch collegiate volleyball, the NCAA champions Wisconsin had both a 6'8" (Rettke, national player of the year) and a 6'9" freshman (Smrek, who came into her own during the end of the season, and was the Player of the Tournament, including hitting 20-1-27 in the semi-final game). The not only had some standing blocks but the fact that those were threatening made the opponents hit from back court and hit volleys. It just messes with the attackers heads.

A 6'8 AND a 6'9 player female player?! How did they ever lose?

Especially when you consider that exceptionally tall women relative to the average are much rarer than exceptionally tall men. For example, I think that men over 7'0" are apparently much more numerous than women over 6'6".

I saw this team multiple times last season. Big Ten Network is one of my favorite channels on a treadmill.

If you know this guy only as an NBA player, you may not realize how athletic he was early in his career.

In the mid- to late-1980s I remember Bobby Knight saying he was the best player in the world - before he got all the injuries (and before Michael Jordan was ascendant).

                    • I'd like to see Eli White in a slam dunk competition. Keep in mind that this is an 8-foot wall.

That was obscene! Choi just had to grin.

                        • I saw that when it happened. Unreal catch. Choi is one of the more engaging athletes I've run into so his reaction is what I'd expect.
