No matter how many times I see this thread pop up, I keep thinking it's about Johnny Callison (who just died a few months ago.)
-
He was before my time, but why no mention of Jack Parr? Or was he just a golfer?

What events did Johnny Carson and Steve Jobs compete in? How long ago? Is this thread living on the historical block because it was started around the time of the last Olympics? Enquiring minds with ADD need to know. I think. :P

Jacksonville is back to normal.
Pensacola is recovering well.
Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach will NEVER be the same again. Too much devastation. Everyone on the beach and at least 50% of GB lost everything. Cleaning up one's lot COSTS you $5-10K. It you weren't grandfathered in with Flood Insurance, you got very little from the insurance companies. Total disaster. My extended in-law family is back in P'cola in a rental, but there's nothing to go back to. Talk about a life-changing experience. Many are just selling their lots for 10 cents on the dollar, and moving away.

Do they have a place to go? Baby sis got off fairly light (except for the missing boat), but my understanding was your gang got wiped out.
Edit: Oh, FEMA.

Not exactly $500m for Stern himself. The quote from an NBC report: "Specific terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but Sirius pegs total production and operating costs for the Stern show --including salaries for the cast and staff, overhead, construction costs for a dedicated studio and a budget for the development of additional programming and marketing concepts --at about $100 million per year."
Still, sirius dough being tossed around.

Re: Didn't Johnny Carson just retire?
I really wasn't thinking about that, but you're right. It's only a matter of time before the essential nature of certain media, including TV, changes significantly and ends up being very different from anything we have today. The process has already begun.

Re: Didn't Johnny Carson just retire?
On further reflection, 5 years from now might be a tad premature to say there will be no more TV but it will eventually just morph into a TV/computer (portable like an iPod) and the time won't get replaced.
